What is the difference between electric and manual Shirodhara therapies? I have worked with both types and favor giving manual shirodhara therapy because it is the closest to Shirodhara's original and authentic form. Shirodhara was invented thousands of years ago when there was no electricity. Doing it manually invites me to focus entirely on my client and the entire process. It becomes a meditation for the therapist. Such a therapist must be vigilant about the temperature, the flow, the comfort of the client, and the amount of oil in the upper pot as it empties slowly over the client’s forehead. I enjoy pouring the oil from the pitcher to the upper pot every ten minutes or so. The act of pouring oil is sacred. Oil becomes divine when it is anointed with purposeful intention. When I used the electric equipment, I found the buzz of the electrical pump annoying. I discovered the pump attachments quickly lost integrity, being exposed to warm oil repeatedly and becoming defunct. Once, the plastic hose inserted into my pump became atrophied from the oil and disconnected in the middle of the session. Oil was consequently splattered all over my client, me, and my room. However, I understand some spas and other places where therapists are expected to hurry or watch the clock might enjoy the electric Shirodhara better. It may be more time-consuming and more work using the manual shirodhara system, but I find it a higher quality experience. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however. If you struggle to choose between them, I suggest choosing the one you want to receive a session with yourself. If you choose the electric one, you can permanently remove the pump and hose and convert it easily to the manual version.

About Our 100% Copper Shirodhara Equipment:

Our 100% copper Shirodhara vessels have been ionized to inhibit the growth of bacteria and balance the ions when the oil makes contact with the copper. Ionization inhibits the growth of bacteria, algae, and certain viruses. Also, negative ionization attracts the positive ions out of the oil, effectively neutralizing the electrostatic energy in the oil. When the oil passes over the scalp, it becomes refilled with the positive ions that accumulate around us. This will again be neutralized when they come into contact with the copper.

Copper is one of the best conductors of electricity and ions. In other words, copper will conduct the negative ions (the good ions) into the oil and transform the positive ones. Dr. Vasant Lad told his class in 1997 that “when oil passes through brass, silver, and copper, its medicinal properties are elevated, and the molecular & ionic structure of the oil becomes more medicinal.” The design and materials used in our Shirodhara systems may vary slightly from the featured photos. What is Shirodhara Therapy?

This is an ancient mind-melting warm oil therapy rooted in Ayurvedic concepts that give rise to elevated consciousness, expanded awareness, blissful sleep, and healing for the entire mind-body-spirit paradigm. Ayurveda is a time-proven, evidence-based, holistic medical system of self-healing. This is potentially one of the most “spiritually awakening” therapies on the planet and one of my favorite therapies to give my clients. It raises consciousness, bliss, peace, removes stress, and so much more. I find that I receive the benefits when I give the treatment. This particular Shirodhara therapy is unique because I incorporate heated and chilled sea stones to help harmonize and ground my clients during this very uplifting therapy. It helps soothe the “internal wind” we all carry from stress. I also use stones in the oil to help regulate the oil's temperature and infuse the ocean's prana within the matrix of each stone. Shirodhara translated means “the flowing of oil like a thread (dhara) on the head (Shiro).” This treatment provides a platform for warm oil to flow in a steady stream gently over the third eye located on the forehead and over the top of the head (crown chakra). Shirodhara rejuvenates both the mind and the senses, which allows the body’s natural healing mechanisms to release stress from the nervous system and improve mental clarity and comprehension. Shirodhara is a profound, mind-melting, sacred treatment using medicinal Ayurvedic oils, sometimes followed or proceeded by massage. Shirodhara uses oils, butter, and milk infused with special herbs that calm and nourish the nervous system. During traditional Shirodhara, a thin stream of warm liquid flows from a copper vessel hung approximately 6-8 inches above the client’s forehead. The actual flow of oil takes between 20-40 minutes. Upon graduation, students become certified as Sacred Stone Shirodhara Therapists.

One-year guarantee. Returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase, considering damage and use of the product. The customer agrees to pay "return" shipping costs and a 20% restocking fee—no refunds after 30 days. There is no warranty if you drop it and it cracks or gets dented—the warranty is handled directly between the consumer and manufacturer. After one year, we will do repairs if needed for a small fee if the customer pays shipping costs. Our products are made to last a lifetime.
